Press release
Zaal Art Gallery X Guest House present an exhibition themed around Earthenware Imagery, specifically the earthenware jar and how it is implemented in the quatrains of Omar Khayyam.
The exhibition features artworks by Reza Abedini, Hadi Alijani, Reza Aramesh, Ida Aslanian, Sahand Hesamiyan, Hoda Kashiha, Mirza Hamid, Jacopo Pagine, Roksana Pirouzmand, Iman Raad, and Mamali Shafahi & Domenico Gutknecht.
In the works presented, the jar is not only a visual form but also a symbol of the worldview of Khayyam. While the pieces reflect the recurring themes in the quatrains, their assembly ultimately forms an intertwined network imagery and symbolism.
Omar Khayyam (1048-1131) was a Persian polymath who excelled in various fields, leaving behind a legacy as a philosopher, astronomer, and poet. While Khayyam’s scientific achievements were remarkable, he is best known in the Western world for his poetry. His poetry, particularly in the Rubaiyat, frequently uses the imagery of earthenware to explore themes of creation, existence, and mortality.
