Shohreh Mehran (b. 1957, Ardebil, Iran) is a painter and a graphic designer. She graduated with a degree in Graphic Arts from the Tehran College of Arts (1979). She studied painting with Aydin Aghdashloo and Mohammad Hasan Shid-del. Her images capture and distill contemporary Iranian scenes and people, particularly in the urban and social context of Tehran. Most of the figures that appear in her paintings are young women whose eyes are covered or cannot be seen ("Defaced", 2013). A cover, in fact, is always present, even enveloping buildings ("Cityscapes", 2003 and "Under Construction, 2005) and flowers she depicts. Her "Schoolgirls" (2007, 2010) are full of life. The fact that we cannot see their faces or their eyes seems to suggest that their source of energy should be sought elsewhere ("Whatever is veiled makes my imagination soar", 2014).
